State of Journalism 2022

Social media habits, reporting strategies and pitching preferences from journalists in 2022

For our annual report, we partnered with 10 journalist organizations to survey 2,500+ journalists on everything from popular reporting mediums and in-person event coverage to the most effective PR pitching strategies.

These are just a few of our survey highlights:

    • The average journalist covers 4 beats in 2022. In 2021, the average journalist covered 3 beats.
    • For the third year in a row, 58% of journalists remain optimistic about the profession
    • 44% of journalists agree that the way companies share information is outdated—a decrease from last year’s 61%, indicating that companies are stepping up the way they share information
    • More journalists say social media personalities and celebrity spokespeople are credible sources for reporting—and fewer find CEOs and company PR pros credible

We broke down the results of the survey in a live panel discussion on April 5th; watch the on-demand recording to see the top survey takeaways and considerations for your media relations strategy in 2022.
