    Search and Media Lists

Our Media Team uses Muck Rack on the daily. Muck Rack’s media list building tools enable us to build lists quickly and accurately. We use Muck Rack to keep our media lists up-to-date and build customized lists that fit the needs of a particular project or campaign. Since the media landscape shifts so often, it has been really nice to have a tool like Muck Rack in place. It definitely makes our jobs easier.

The other tool we use is Muck Rack’s Article Search function. We respond to breaking cybersecurity news and this tool has been super helpful in providing coverage of articles as they roll in, which helps us make educated assessments as to where we are in the media news cycle and how to best tailor our approach for media outreach.

I feel that Muck Rack’s Search tool is more accurate for pulling up-to-the-minute coverage on a different news cycles compared to Google.

    Coverage Reports

The Coverage Reports function in Muck Rack is very effective and easy to use. We use Muck Rack for pulling and analyzing media coverage. Muck Rack definitely makes reporting easier. We can pull coverage reports hourly, daily, weekly or monthly. And, if there is a particular campaign or announcement that we are looking to pull coverage for to see how it is performing, we are able to pull coverage in realtime. The data we pull using Muck Rack helps inform and prioritize media efforts to ensure we are meeting our quarterly goals. We are also able to compare our coverage from quarter to quarter.

One of the metrics we pay close attention to is total shares -- we like to see what other journalists have shared stories that mention HackerOne. We also care about reach.

“Out of all the PR software the HackerOne team evaluated, we liked Muck Rack the best. I definitely recommend Muck Rack -- overall, it stood out compared to the competition.”

    Team Collaboration

On any given day, our media team is quite busy juggling multiple story pitches and news announcements. As such, we find the Muck Rack Pitch Log to be particularly useful in tracking communications with journalists, so we have an understanding as to who recently approached which journalist, when, and on what topic as well as any feedback collected from the journalist.
