Muck Rack collaborated with Zeno Group, a leading global integrated communications agency, to conduct this year's annual journalist survey to look at the changing trends in the industry. We looked at journalists' use of social media, their attitudes towards the future of the profession, how they rely on press releases and newswires, and more.

Here are some of the key findings:

  • More than half (53%) of U.S.-based journalists do not rely on press releases at all while only 3% say they rely on press releases sent via newswires
  • And almost half (49%) of journalists surveyed said they would be more likely to pay attention to a press release if it contained an infographic
  • 27% of journalists choose Twitter as their primary news source
  • 46% of journalists believe that it is not possible for a journalist to be 100% objective in today’s political and social environment
